Technically, you have the right to refuse any treatment. But likewise, your doctor is able to refer you elsewhere if he feels that you are not being receptive to his suggestions. I think I've seen you post elsewhere that you hadn't stuck to any medication for longer than a month. Even though your reasons for stopping the meds seem totally legit, my experience with doctors is that they often like you to give something a chance before...

Opiates for ADHD?
Published (2009-11-11 18:06:00)
Tramadol can cause physical addiction and withdrawal as far as I know. I've used it in the past short term and it seems to give a bit of a mood lift. Don't think it is scheduled but does have potential for abuse, but much less than traditional opiates. It acts as a SNRI to a small degree - I think its available for use in the U.S. as Ultram for depression/anxiety?

No clue about online pharmacies, sorry. If you go here, the mfg will sign you up to get 50% off your rx's. https://www.pristiq.com/co-pay-assistance.aspx They also have another type of payment assistance program that you might qualify for. Also, explain your situation to your doc. Maybe he'll liberate a few more of those samples that the rep gives him. Best of luck

Ok well my doctor just gave me a sample of a new antidepressant, Pristiq (I know it's a "sister" to effexor, Ive been on effexor, and I dont want effexor I want pristiq at least for now until something crappy happens lol) and I wasnt thinking at the time that my medicaid probably wouldnt cover it, being that it's new and of course theres no generic. At the time I was in no condition to be thinking about such things. Well so...

Hey! I just replied to your PM and saw this post. I don't have insurance so I shop around A LOT for meds. I've researched this a bit, and I'm going to do what CptNemo said and do the 50% off. When my pdoc gave me samples, he also gave me this other bigger box/packet thing with a cd for savings. You can also sign up online at that link CptNemo posted. As far as prices go, Costco has by far been the cheapest as far as drug prices...

Hello, new to forums.
Diagnosed with ADD and am prescribed 30mgVyvance. However, it still doesn't help me focus when people are talking to me. I'm still detracted by their facial features and mind wondering elsewhere..its very frustrating and I'm about to lose it. However, when I took my friend's adderall xr I had no problems at all!! I could very easily listen and pay attention to people and ...

Even more comprehensive review I found coming from the "Drug Effectiveness Review Project" -- 132 page review of ADHD trials up to 2007

Particularly interesting are summaries of head-to-head studies:
Ritalin IR vs extended release -- mixed results, ER had higher rate of refills
Dexedrine IR vs Ritalin IR -- no differences found

I have been dx'ed with adjustment disorder and possible bipolar II disorder about 3 and 1/2 years ago. I have worked through the adjustement disorder part of my life, and have now eliminated all stress factors from my life.
I have been prescribed seroquel for over 3 years at 50mg at bedtime and I have 0 complaints about it. To me its the wonder sleeping aid with absolutely no side effects....

No I don't think a doctor would prescribe opiates for add. Add meds are
prescribed long term. Opiates are a short term medicine used for pain. I
think what you were feeling was a happy rush from the pain meds. I know
alot of people who feel link they can do anything with opiates. They end up
becoming addicted and tired and spacey. This is the opposite of what add
drugs are used for. Look in the ...

Based on the lack of responses, I take it that what our Dr said about Concerta only releasing about 15% of the medicine during the first 4 hours is not much of an issue for many people. (?)

hello,
i have never heard of that as a side effect of ADHD medicine. Are you sure that those are responsible? Im sure it is possible.
A possible solution could be to take saw palmetto supplement with Rogaine to prevent further hair from falling out. I use both, and it is not a miracle cure, but it definatly helps. My hair loss is not related to ADHD medication though.

1. Yup. And expect to pay full price for those meds, as you were not diagnosed as a child (gotta love the PBS).
2. Can't help there.
And it's a myth that those meds are abusable: you can still abuse them, you just have an extended release euphoria.

I really don't know much about them, but my doc gave just me a script for Xanax, should I need it. I picked N/A as I haven't had to take one yet.
When the panic's bad, I'd imagine being a bit sedated would be a relief.

Not really. Not in my experience. But, the benefits of anti-depressants, in my opinion, greatly exceed the annoyance withdrawal.
The effects of withdrawal aren't that horrible, not if you slowly wean off. Just annoying. Just like you want to slowly titrate up to find your optimal dose when you start on them.
Anti-depressants helped me get out of a major depression (along with therapy).
