How does Sugar affect you?

I go sugar free on a regular basis.. sugar seems to make me tired and cranky in excessive amounts.. luckily I don't do that too often, and when I do.. it sets me up for eating even MORE. so.. I cut the sugar and simple starches out for a couple of weeks and I feel like my old self again.

Mom smoked all pregnancy?

What about your mother's mother or your father's mother? And does your mom or dad have any symptoms of ADD/ADHD? They are definitely finding the genetic/hereditary connection, so most likely, someone in your family tree probably has some signs of ADD/ADHD

Again, not sure if I mentioned earlier in the thread, but I've been taking Jarrow's Optimized B-Right B complex pills... Not just any b complex pills. It COULD make a difference.

I agree- I was so used to anxiety that I couldn't even recognise it in myself. It's just something that's always been there.

Think more along the lines of low-energy. If you're bouncing off the wall, you're probably not ADHD-I haha. It's like ADHD without the physical hyperactivity.

I've taken the lazier approach and just downloaded programs that do the calculations for me. I don't really do that anymore since I am allowed a note card in every class, and programs are a bit to complex and problematic... plus i need to show work anyway.
I tend to take lots of shortcuts like this. Finding an easier way to accomplish a task. Its a good trait and a bad trait depend on how you ...

Yeah I would be labeled SCT as well, but my perspective is we are only slow moving when we are " lost in thought". When my mind is rapidly moving around I can be very sluggish and slow because I can't seem to work towards any specific duty. This sounds an awfully alike to ADD? Being overly shy, withdrawn, and hypoactive can be derived from depression and anxiety, not to mention people can have ...

My mother smoked and drank moderately the first 4 months of pregnancy. My fiance's mother smoked her entire pregnancy. We have both been diagnosed with ADHD, and she also has a bad case of OCD. I have been diagnosed with OCB and Tourette's also, among other things I picked up later along the road.
It's a common suggestion in the science thingys that this is a possible contributer.

Well not exactly NEED. If I get nine hours of sleep then I won't be yawning and falling asleep in middle of the day.

Hmm, just thinking about the causes of this:
1. It gives me a lot of confidence when I know that I have everything under control & ready to go. I know the purpose, I have the tools I need and I know how to use them, and I understand the workflow for getting the results that I want. I know that I can be successful if I'm on top of everything, instead of missing stuff.
2. It really kills ...

Yup, definitely. We don't handle external distractions well, unless we're internally motivated about it. I really think that ADD is a misnomer; MDD (Motivation Deficit Disorder) is a much better description. Conversation is one of the most stimulating things we can do, so it's easy to get motivated about it and multi-task, but doing homework and going to sleep are very boring things, so you ...

I cut out caffeine and sugar a few weeks ago and started having protein shakes- doesn't really help my ADHD symptoms but it definitely helps the anxiety/depression/moodiness side of things. I'm a lot less snappy and unpredictable.
I used to eat about £3-5 of chocolate most days.

It seems like when I get sidetracked from something I am totally engaged in and I know there isn't a quick fix to get back on track I get totally moody and frustrated.
It also seems to be similar when I feel "stuck" in a situation and can't physically follow where my brain is leading me... either to a computer to look something up... outside or garage where I can work on a project etc....

Absolutely. Night time is when my brain actually become alive. Once it get to about 9pm I really start to become seriously awake until about 3am when I have to force myself to bed.
And yes the mornings are hell to get up & do anything!

I agree. I didn't notice the Inattentive section at first but I'm glad I finally saw it. I've fit in in other sections, but my ADD isn't too severe (thankfully) and I don't have the hyper part so was questioning my diagnosis a bit until I found this section and got feedback and support and saw that I'm similar to many more than I thought I was.
