4th grade and 5th grade were a nightmare for my granddaughter and I. At least 3 days a week she would get off the bus and when I asked her if she had any homework to get started on - she'd suddenly remember that she left some of it at school. So we'd jump into gramma's minivan real quick and rush back to school so she could get into the classroom and get her homework out of her desk before the teacher locked the classroom and...

The problem that I have with Quackwatch is often their logic is not valid. The author goes on to say that SID is probably not real. Then says that it is probably just due to anxiety, without giving any justification for that theory. My current therapist for my daughter just believes that it is related to the development of the nervous system. He feels that for these kids their nervous system development is behind most other people, making them...

I have a dead bolt on my door. I have a rule, that works everytime. I lock the door with the key everytime, and in doing so I don't forget my key. Before I made this rule I would get locked out because I forgot my key. Now when I forget my key, I can't lock the door. So now and I go back in and get my key. Sometimes I forget my key, come out, realise I forgot my key, because I can't lock my door, go inside to get my key, (forget...

Will keep that in mind, RHW. In other ventures around the house, notes and other visual reminders have not worked well once the novelty wears off, they just get ignored. I suppose we should rotate them to keep them effective. Maybe an auditory reminder would work well too...hmmmm.... Well, I did WD40 the latch on the door, and its more than just a flap now, so even if it's not locked at least the kids should not just stroll out. Something...

I have been wanting to post here regularly so I would get in a daily habit of finding something I'm proud about him even though our relationship is going through a really tough time right now. Out of the blue, I heard my DS16 explain to his dad that boring assignments give him a difficult time. If the subject is interesting to him, he can sail through with flying colors but he has a hard time forcing himself through assignments that he...

Wind chimes! geez why didn't I think of this before? I always forget to lock a door behind me, and then leave the keys behind anyways, so I hang windchines above the doorway. The jingling tells me to lock the door and make sure I have my keys.

The most I can do with this is set a timer for 10 minutes and then give
each kid a certain job to do during that 10 minutes. Heck, I use it on
myself sometimes! I can't for the life of me stick to any kind of routine
right now so anything requiring me to remember to update it, or do it, over
and over again just won't work around here (like charts and the like).
What's working best here right now ...

You know your child is ADHD when:
She paints herself and the puppy from head to toe in peanut butter!
You have to make two calls to poison control in the same week when she tasted laundry detergent and managed to take off the child proof lid on her daddy's diabetic medication !
When several months after you get one chipped tooth fixed, she jumps off the couch and chips the other one!...

Thanks for the advice!!! My son is very bright -so that certainly fits. The interesting thing is that he was also diagnosed with Apraxia at 20 months old -which is a neurological speech disorder. He's been in speech therapy since then, and had to learn signs in order to speak. After signing, he then began picking up words, and was able to communicate, though he continues to have problems with...

Hi,
We have 2 kids now grown. One had it one did not. Would not trade either of them in. One went to the military, other is a respiratory therapist. Military kid is now in college and doing well.
ADHD is absolutely not an issue for deciding on kids.
Enjoy, Ken
