^a friend of mine at work, who isn't into cars, saw my 135i loaner in the parking lot one day and asked me what it was. I told him it was a 135i. He goes 'oh, I thought it was like a negative 3 series or something."

In my opinion, you don't need it (the car's got a 10-year no rust
warranty). If you're concerned about the long run, use a car wash that
washes salt and dirt from under the car. I do that every couple of weeks
during the winter.

It will go to sleep after a while. In most current BMWs the power is switched off completely once the vehicle is locked and you're away from it. Some of the ones with Comfort Access wake up when you get near them though. It's like trying to tell if the light in the fridge turns off when you close the door.

That 3rd light in the front is yuck.
Rust under the passenger foot well.
Electrical problems with the gauge.
Working HVAC.
Timing belt on the inline 6's (the I-4's have a timing chain instead)
Taillight seal
Otherwise most are rock solid.

I'm almost certain OEM E46 M3 mirrors would be plug-and-play on an E46 325 as far as electrics are concerned. Regardless, maybe some water got in there during the detail? Maybe a fuse (though probably not if there are no other problems)?
If they are aftermarket mirrors, then your guess is as good as mine.

I did not see the incident you are talking about but BMW tests in the area
all the time. When I lived up there I would see test cars every few weeks.
We saw about 6 together heading north on the 101 about a month ago.

You can get an E86M for ~$30k's. That's a bargain of the Century.
The other choice I'd go for would be the last generation Nissan Z. Inexpensive AND reliable.

Sucks. I'm an insurance agent and have had this happen to a few clients. Seems like theifs target shops/dealerships occasionally, but I'm always curious if it's an employee of the shop since there never seems to be forced entry. Who else would know how to get in/out without getting caught on security cameras?...
