i also stuck my hand back there to see if one side felt warm or not. i did not feel any heat on the hoses. but i know my thermostat isnt stuck closed because i can squeeze the large radiator hose on passenger front and it builds up pressure and you can also feel flow. also having the radiator cap off you can see some flow. unfortunetly no heat yet. we'll see tomorrow after i go for a drive. if i get my heat back the car will be back to...

Just watch that temp needle like a hawk. If you see it start to rise above the 12 o'clock position, shut her down immediately. You may have a different issue than the OP. Sounds like your thermostat might be stuck in the closed position.

The head gasket is actually pretty easy. Lock the cams, static timing, new gasket kit, head check....pretty straight forward. Bentley details it just enough for your average diy. A mechanic will only need it for torque specs.

Drill hole in the bolt, use an easy out or bolt extractor.(they are a oversized drill bit with a reverse thread, reversing the drill drives the extractor into the bad bolt and reversing the bolt out.) They are sold, at hardware stores, auto parts stores, maybe walmart. You may need to take the cooling fan off to have room for a drill. When you drill the pilot hole make sure it is smaller then the extractor your using. Make sure the pilot hole...

If you drop that part number into google you will see some sellers. But, is it very different from a hardware store bolt?

I just changed the rear Y fitting on the engine, yes, you have the hoses hooked up right. Mine after parking in steep driveway, getting all air out, heater worked fine again (this morning) then I drove about 5 miles, overheated again, so now I'm looking at a head gasket. Pressure is building up and blowing out the coolant everywhere. So I would suggest trying to bleed the system again. At least your head gasket isn't blown. I have...

i'm having the exact same issue after replacing both of the plastic cooling bits and the t-stat. I've bled it a few times already. the air blowing in the car during the bleed is the same temp as outside. Out of curiosity I reached thru the mess to feel the heater hoses going into the heater core. both cold. trying to see if I was getting any circulation at all after the car was warmed up I felt the rad hoses, top was hot, bottom cold...

I have to change my tensioner for the water pump. I attempted to remove it but there is upper tensioner securing bolt ( the one that holds it to the block) accually under the tensioner pulley . I have the lower one out ,however I have no clue how to get to the one under the pulley without a method of putting tension on the arm so I can get under it .

A '97 M3 is being parted out near me. Anyone know if the compressor would work on a 03/96 ti? If so, is installation a big professional job or a DIY for a brave novice? My Haynes manual basically says "other than replacing the belts, have a pro do it".

Hi Sorted out the lack of heat by changing the thermostat (thanks to the info on here!) Only problem is the air doesnt really seem to blow much? If i turn the dial up to 4 then i can hear the fan but the actual amount of air coming out of the vents seems really low as if it is stuck on number 2. Any ideas how to check what this coudl be and/or replace motor? Had a search on ...

My wife and I just bought a 97 318ti prob about 1/2 yr ago. We brought it back from the dead and love it even though it is beat on the inside. Anyways, she recently had a problem where a little part broke off from the back of the engine where a hose connected to. Coolant leaked everywhere. Some guys patched it up for her in the parking lot and she drove home and almost made it (2 h ...

I have another update guys. I'm in the midst of attempting this repair. So far I have * taken off the glove box and the knee bolster * I see a flap for the FOOT vents, and that seems to be opening & closing fine. I have yet to remove the passenger face vent. * attempted to bleed the coolant system using the small, black plastic screw next to the coolant cap Strange...as I stood by my engine and...
