Personally I am not familiar with that turbo. However, you should try nasioc.com. There are quite a few subaru guys running FP turbos. You might be able to get more information out of them while still being able to surprise your boyfriend.

check your tailight fuse, it controls your dash lights as well as the tails. as far as the battery issue it is possible your battery is just too old or your alternator is going out, do you have any other dash lights on?
