"Optical audio in"

I'm taking an interest in capturing more than two audio tracks at once, and eyeing the optical audio jacks on the back of my Mac Pro. If I ran an optical audio cable straight from my DVD player to my Mac Pro, is FCP 5.1.2 capable of making an uncontrolled on-the-fly capture of the 6 channels output from the player? Or would I need an intermediary device in between to allow for that?

USB 2.0 good enough for fcp? I know usb used to not be recommended but I see all these cheap deals I was just curious what was the present case.

That's worthy of a call to BMD tech support. Either the card is intermittent or somehow FCP is not communicating with the card. Have you trashed FCP prefs? Ned

One of my two HUGE U320 arrays has failed and now I hear that Ciprico is done for. I'm pretty sure its just a problem with the array enclosure, as we've had minor issues with it before. Can I just swap the individual drives into a different compatable enclosure or do I have to try to find my same model on ebay or something? _______________________________________________
