If you're in SFO for Macworld next week, try to plan to stop by the FCPUG Super Meet Wednesday night. Info here: http://www.lafcpug.org/macworld09 I'll be there showing how to make a Blu-ray compatible disc WITHOUT owning a Blu-ray drive! THIS is a cool trick you will want to see! Hope you'll drop by. best - Bruce Nazarian "the Digital Guy"

Overwrite video asset in DVDSP
Published (2009-01-02 00:33:00)
That's exactly what i did. I just chose same same with v2, deleted v1 changed v2 file name to v1 and it seemed to be fine with the exception of a couple of end chapters. Not sure why they disappeared but easy to re-insert in DSP after consulting the time codes in FCP. Thanks!

Yes, in a perfect world, you'd only encode your assets once. But, the production world isn't perfect, and clients can be difficult. It's not something I do a lot, only on rare occasion. But something that does come up. I delete the originals, and the PAR folder, export the new file. That is as long as the new file has the same length, chapter markers, etc. Then export new files with the same names, re-connect the media in DVDSP....

Thanks Bruce! This was perfect. Also, it seemed to be easier to create the 5.1 surround mix (ac3) in Soundtrack Pro 2 (STP2) itself. It allowed me to export my mix using Dolby Digital Professional and I didn't have to go to Compressor and click on the "add surround sound" function and import each individual audio channel. Also, I noticed when I imported the ac3 and m2v files into DSP 2 timeline - I wasn't able to...

Well I thought that DVDSP had to do an encode upon a Build and Format. It's failing because it says the bitrate is too high so I went to Encode Settings to change the bitrate but can't. It's a 47 minute video which I exported out of Compressor using the DVD:Best quality 90 minutes, upped the average bit rate to 7 and max to 9 which said it allowed up to 73 minutes of video. So if DVDSP does not...

MPEG Streamclip is cross platform and will open VOB files from a VIDEO_TS folder as a DVD stream. http://www.squared5.com/ VLC Media Player is also cross platform and for playback will do the same. Both apps have a fullscreen mode and both are free. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I am having problems when I export my iMovie into iDVD... I have powerpoint images that were converted to jpegs and then imported into iMovie. When I view them in iMovie, the quality is fine, but when I export to iDVD, the quality is compromised and the font is blurry. Is there anything that I'm missing? Please help!

My guess? You drive is dying. It's not unusual for drives to burn DVDs and not CDs or vice-versa, burn DL and not SL (I just went though that) or vice-versa and to write and not read or vice-versa. A lot of vice-versas. Try a cleaner disk or go in with a Q-tip lightly dampened with denatured alcohol and gently wipe the lens.
