Interrested in Old NRA and CMP...

No pistols were ever sold through the CMP. Pistols were sold through the NRA and DCM until President Johnson stopped the sale of pistols to American citizens in 1968. All the pistols I know of being sold through the NRA/DCM were shipped Railway Express. Prior to 1968 the price of a 1911 or 1911A1 pistol from the DCM was $17 shipped. A lot of British Lend-Lease 1911A1 pistols came back to the U.S. through dealers, and were advertised in many...

I for one would like to see the back side of the grips for a couple of reasons. What are they really, and do they match.

No offense, but what you described can hardly be called an "all original 1911". It's an Augusta Arsenal rework, and value is determined by its actual condition and whether or not Augusta was the last to molest it. It still sounds like a nice exampe of a reworked 1911, and I'm sure everyone would like to see some pictures.

M1911A1 NM Remington Rand

I am most impressed with the barrel. It is marked C within a square on the right, and M & P on the left. The link appears to have a stamping like an S. The barrel has a very slick feel to it, like it has some coating baked on it. It is almost shiny black. The ramp to the throat is black and not polished mill finish. The barrel hood has the typical part number and serial number of the receiver stamped on it. The bushing has several of...

I got all the imformation I needed. I agree that I was rather cryptic. Sorry, but thanks for the information you did supply. I'm not concerned with the BATFE. Thay are just a scare tactic. James

Yep, as noted the back sides are important if you're striving for a "correct" M1911A1. These same grips were probably produced into the 1980s to repair broken grips in units. We didn't worry about "matching" then side to side though! -- Chuck

It appears the receiver has been refinished a couple times, and the serial number was starting to fade so it was restamped for clarity. I have read that unless the pistols were sold at the matches, they were returned to the armory and rebuilt for next years matches.
The machining on the front strap is very clean.

Does anyone have any scans of period ads for surplus M1911s?
I've heard many mentions of how many of the pistols we seek were at one time sold through the mail for very little money.
It would be interesting to learn more about these programs.

Might you experts give an opinion on value of mixed 1911's?
What I mean is a frame and slide on war 1911's with obvious rearsenal or "wrong-war slides".
Just poking around local sales here I have seen several of these and passed them up.
