Stupid Colts :D

I love 9mm. I shoot my 9mm in these. O.K., I just ordered a 38 super XSE LW Commander to put on layawake for Christmas. Later will come a 9x19 barrel and later yet maybe a 9x21. I also have other 9mm guns like a nice little Kahr PM9.

The dust cover on a 1911 was never designed to support anything hanging off of it in the first place. It flexes during recoil and is too thin to support any amount of weight. I would never attach anything to a 1911 that didn't already have one of the new frames with a reinforced dust cover and integrated rail. To do this with a Gold Cup was the epitome of stupid.

I don't have detailed instructions, but DO NOT modify anything on your frame. If anything needs to be filed on, it will be the grip safety and NOT your gun.

Colt National Match Worth ?

The only way to ensure you won't crack it is to not shoot it! The lightened slide is intended for light loads, so if you shoot it with full-power ammo, you risk cracking the slide. The gun was designed for something else.

Well, as nuts as it sounds, a little bright red nail polish on the top edge of the blade will really bring it out. Doesn't hurt the gun and is easily removable with any gun cleaner. Not durable, in the normal sense, but for a day at the range when you want a little better "picture", it works pretty good for me.

I would call Colt and find out the year it was made and any other info they may give you for free (be nice when calling). Posting a picture would be nice. I have seen NIB (New In Box) guns from the 60s that were purchased, thrown in a safe, not checked or touched and became RIB (Rusted in Box), and before you say "no way", have you checked under the grips? Does it have box and papers, etc.? ...

That is a monument to human stupidity right there. That poor gun, it did not deserve that. I can feel its pain.

I had the same situation with a Colt Gov't Series 70 from 1970's. Mine was pretty much stock and in excellent condition, its now a safe queen. I opted to pickup a newer gun off Gunbroker and had it customized to my liking. Very happy with my decision.

My vote is for Swenson.
A pre-70 NM Like that probably wouldn't have needed the barrel positioner-many of them shot quite well.
Is one of the buffers leather? That was a Swenson thing.
The slide stop is a period correct Hoag.
I am most curious about the cuts of the front of slide. Never seen that....

" Series 80" style pistols are still produced. Do you mean "Series 70"?

I gotta agree with all your comments, except the grips. Mine are almost pink they're so light in color. Hated them. I understand the sights given the "theme" of the pistol. But the A1 grip safety would have been alot better, along with a WWI repro's thumb safety.
I've shot mine, actually didn't get bit like I thought I would. Accuracy is simply amazing and not a single issue in about 300rds....

$375-$395 I think.
Do they do good work? Have you handled a Colt from their custom shop????? Of course they do great work!
The "O" Package ~
Novak sites front and rear.
Beavertail grip safety
Rounded hammer
Refinish parts that need it.

The floating chamber will be obvious - the back portion of the barrel is removable! If it is caked with firing residue it may seem to be one piece, but the line between it and the barrel will be visible. The long piece is your ejector - don't lose it! It fits up into a slot into the barrel that is on one side and into the slide on the other end.
Sights would be Colt Accro, unless it is ...
