is winchester dirty ammo now?
Published (2009-11-28 15:33:00)
i shot through 100 rounds of remington .45 yesterday. i could start to see some residue and crud build up but nothing out of the normal went home and striped it and cleaned it out and the mag then today i switched to walmart white boxes of winchester .45. after about 25 rounds the gun was dirtier and had more crud in the barrel then when i shot the 100 rounds of rem. around the 60th round i was getting a jam here and there. then towards the...

I'm trying to break-in/tune my LCP for similar use as well. The pistol (new with factory springs 9-10#) would not reliably shoot a full mag or two without balking. The recoil springs just don't feel strong enough and looked a little funny (curved). I bought the Wolff calibration/tuning set (11-12-13#) and a couple hundred rounds of FMJ to work out the kinks. It's a great little pistol otherwise and if it eventually works...

223 Ammo
Published (2009-11-27 13:52:00)
The Federal I bought new was great ammo and wal mart has bulk boxes of 50 at a good price and would be my forst choise due to price and shooting clean and accurate on a budjet. I had no problems with realoding the brass and having it last. I had very good luck with LC as someone sold me some brand new quite a few years back {2003-2004} Some even came on stipper clips. I should have bought more. I did not have a way to reem or swag primer...

wallyWorldWhiteBox is definitely both dirtier AND less peppy... I can run 40cal in older smith 3rd gens and they will eat it reliably..but they come out a black residue mess after a box. I can run WWB 45 in my full size 1911..again..really dirty What I can't do is run WWB 45 in my ultra 1911 short models. Both my springfield ultra V10 and my Kimber eclipse II (internal extractor) ultra...will run Federal, fiocci, Rem, etc with no failures...

I never had WWB jam up because it was dirty but yes I find it very dirty
but it's really the best priced range ammo out there. WWB at Wally world
is about half of what you would spend on line. Remington is cleaner but
and makes great range ammo but I find it a bit pricer. My Wally world never
seems to stock it anymore.

That's a bit high, usually they go for $22-25 per 20.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. You can get some pretty hot 10mm loads, crowding toward .41 mag levels.
The 10mm will have a slightly flatter trajectory for longer range shots.

Ohhhhh, I'm sure Hornady would love to hear about this and want all the ammo you have left shipped back and the boxes. Trust me, they will be very interested.

The single review of that ammo by an ATG customer is less than stellar. If you're looking for reloadable .223, maybe you should buy new.

WOW! That is great! Did they try to be slick and mark all the ammo up?

Have bought about 10 boxes of federal .40 in the last week at wal-mart here in Iowa. They haven't had much for .45 or .357 though. Also they seem to have 9mm pretty often now.

Its pretty good stuff. I shoot thousands of rounds a month and currently have 5,000 rounds of this in .40S&W.
Give it a shot ( no pun intended)

I don't trust the 380 JHP's to expand AND penetrate. I only carry FMJ in my 380. I know that it will never be a "one-shot-stop" caliber (unless it's a head or CNS shot), so I'm pretty sure I'll have to pull the trigger more than once. Tracy

How many hunters use hand loads to hunt with ? Probably quiet a few brew special loads for their hunt to match the game they are hunting and rifle . If you use care and good reloading practices I don't see any problems with reloads . How many have problems with their reloads at the target range? If they do its probably poor reloading practices.

I now carry two extra magazines and very rarely a small BUG (like an NAA Mini). A BUG really depends on my situation at the time but always two magazines with a 1911.
On the few occasions I'm carrying an SP101 anymore, it is always with a reload and often with a small BUG.

The BB might do well. I would like to see some ballistic testing compared to good old buck shot.
But for the price, just buy some premium #4 buck.
