Formula A was the original name of F5000. The British called it F5000 when we adopted it in 1969 and then the US started to use that name for the pro series from 1971-ish. The SCCA continued to use the term Formula A but there was no difference. Formula 5000 stopped in the US at the end of 1976 and morphed into Can-Am. The SCCA Formula A was accordingly merged with the ASR class two or three years later. Yes, you need to dig out a Rose Cup...

Until today, I wasn´t aware that the Lotus 72 wreck from Rindts fatal crash in Monza 1970 is still existing. I read the new book from Ferdi Kräling about the career of Jochen Rindt. At the last page is a picture from the wreck, telling that it was stored for 25 years in a shed in Italy before being recovered by a Rindt Fan from Vienna who is planning to build it up again. Why was that car never given back to Team Lotus? Was it because of a...

Hi Dan there is no problem with this. Both of the B20s have survived or at least one rebuilt. Allen Brown has also referred to the incident where the Alex Lowe B20 was written off at Oulton Park in 1980. This does raise some questions about the extent of the write off and restoration, but the two cars are as follows. We have to remember though - what might seem like a write off to the untrained observer, in fact can be readily repaired with...

Hi everyone. For those who are keeping records up to date I wanted to let you know that I am the proud new owner of FJ-8-62 which I have bought from David Zurlinden. The plan is to race it in the UK and European FJ calendars next year.

Just picked up this thread and dropping back to the 1963 Mallory entry list I've loaded a couple of photos from the first race meeting I ever attended which could well have been the same event - don't think much of the handicapper on the day - whoever decided to start a Gogomobile some time after the Superspeed Anglias set off had a vivid imagination!

The Formula Atlantics and SCCA FB pretty much ran the same size tires from what I can remember and what I've seen, possibly changing out based on course. You have to differentiate between Atlantics in the British Series, the Canadian Players Series, then the combined IMSA/SCCA series (?) - I am only referring to the stateside series which ran in North America. Also be careful of the Formula "A" cars in SCCA, not...

Steve, This is a long shot , however I have seen two March 74Bs with another number stamped on the right hand front magnesium bulkhead on the top plane with something like 74B xxx , this number seems to be a continuation number , anything on yours ?? it may be something that March only did for a short time , who knows.

I haven’t been right back through the thread to check any of this, but this is my understanding. The car is an interesting one, if only for the variations of its number. In 1971 I have it being campaigned by Ikuzawa (as 69-71-1), then in the Torneio by Ronald Rossi (69-7169/1F2) and François Migault (71-69/1-F2). My records say it then went to Japan for Urashibara, but I’d be happy to ...

Further to my post yesterday, I believe the caption in the book mentioned is incorrect. I recently did a comprehensive research effort for Graeme Browne the current owner of FJ - 3 - 62 based entirely on published material that is around. Entries to my competition summary for the project lead me to believe the year was actually 1962 and that it was indeed Gavin Youl's works car that Denny was ...

Harry and I have exchanged email messages in the past, and I believe the car I have sitting here in my garage is B20-72-3. I called Fred Opert about it, but he was less than talkative (probably has too many people calling him about old cars). This car is the one with the brass tag on the top of the roll loop that lists a number of "72FB14." It also has the ugly 1970's air brushed paint scheme ...
